Don't doubt the weather.
Yes, it was wet this morning - at least the ground was, but when I set out on my morning walk,I was wondering where the torrential rain and wind that was predicted had got too. Perhaps it all happened over night?
I walked along feeling my body wake up and at the same time trying to keep my balance on the numerous conkers strewn across the path. In years gone by they would all have been gathered up by now by eager children - why no longer? Have we all become paranoid about children getting injured? Has this game gone the same way as many other childhood games? It's all rather sad.
I think it is really important that children learn how to handle all that life throws at them and that include getting their fingers banged by a conker or falling over etc. I for one want my daughter to go out in the big bad world prepared.
About 10 minutes into my lovely walk, it did begin to rain a little and I was pondering the autumn and the colours on show now as the leaves turn. I was also pondering my day and planning it out in my head, a daily occurrence. As the rain got heavier, I was thinking about our very wet walk in the Isle of Wight and thanking my lucky stars that it wasn't as bad. How wrong I was.
It was at that point that the forecast decided to kick in, wind and horizontal rain which dictated the shortest route home. Umbrellas were blowing inside out, people were shrieking and the water was dripping off my cagoule and socking my walking trousers. Oh what joy!!!
I was greeted at the door by my husband and daughter holding a towel and a hot cuppa, I have them well trained.
Do I regret my walk, no, it did blow the cobwebs away and I have that lovely virtuous feeling that lets me know I have exercised. I also have the warm glow that often results from getting wet.
